INFERTILITY TREATMENT WITH ACUPUNCTURE
Research suggests that there has been an increase of infertility problems in recent years. About 30% of the cases are due to infertility problems in men, 30% because of infertility problem in women and the rest are because of either unknown causes or some sort of an accident. Sometimes there is a genetic issue due to which a couple is unable to conceive. There are different reasons for infertility among men and women. They are discussed below.
Infertility among Men
There are many reasons for infertility among men. These include:
- Blockages in Ejaculatory Ducts
In rare cases, men have some sort of a blockage in their ejaculatory ducts which means that the sperm cannot reach the egg and no mating would occur. There are no apparent symptoms of this problem which is either caused by some injury, vasectomy or infection.
- Irregular Sperm
Another factor that can cause infertility among men is low sperm count or irregularly shaped sperm. This is a naturally occurring problem.
- Anti-sperm antibodies
At times a male body can develop antibodies that attack the sperm and kill it. This mostly occurs after a vasectomy, testicular torsion, infection or trauma of some type.
Infertility among Women
- Ovulation Issues
These are the most common problems among women. This occurs when some hormone does not allow an egg to develop in the ovaries. Symptoms include having irregular or no periods or too heavy or too light bleeding.
If the uterine lining starts growing outside of uterus then conception becomes difficult. The symptoms of this condition vary among people. Some people have painful periods, heavy bleeding and pain in the pelvic region, while others feel nothing.
- Poor Quality Eggs
This mostly occurs with age. With declining age, both the quantity and quality of egg declines. There are no symptoms for it.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS, occurs because of hormone imbalance or an ovulation pattern that is unpredictable. When a woman has POCS then the follicles inside ovaries don’t mature, which means they cannot release eggs. Symptoms include irregular menstrual cycle, acne, extensive facial hair growth and obesity.
- Tubal Problems
Tubal problems occur when there is some blockage or damage in the fallopian tube which does not allow the sperm to meet the egg. It also prevents the egg from being embedded into the uterus. There are no apparent symptoms.
Treating Infertility with Acupuncture
Most people don’t think of acupuncture when they think of treatment options for infertility. Research shows that acupuncture is one of the best working choices for infertile couples, because it is not only non-invasive, it also does not have any side effects. For many years, acupuncture in combination with herbal medicine has treated some causes of infertility to great effect. The treatment is spanned on 3-4 months with regular sessions throughout the week.
At times acupuncture is prescribed in combination with medical treatments like in vitro fertilization and donor-egg transfer. Acupuncture is said to increase the possibility of conception and also improves the chances of having a successful in vitro fertilization.
