Types of Sleeping Disorder

There are many types of sleeping disorders but the most common four are explained below.

Insomnia

This is the most common type of sleep disorder. When a person has difficulty falling asleep and does not get enough sleep so as to feel refreshed in the morning, then that person is suffering from insomnia. Insomnia is mostly caused by some other problem like depression, stress, anxiety or the general life style of an individual. Since a person does not get enough sleep, it could seriously alter the daily routine and relationships of that person. If not taken seriously and treated, insomnia can become a lifetime problem.

Sleep Apnea

Another common sleep disorder is sleep apnea. When a person has this condition, they have breathing problems while sleeping. When asleep, breathing stops because of blockage in the upper airways. This means that sleep is interrupted often, leading to feelings of exhaustion after waking up. It can be a life-threatening condition and needs to be taken care of as soon as a person discovers it. If you or your loved one have chronic snoring, choking or gasping during sleep, then that might mean you have sleep apnea.

Narcolepsy

People with this disorder feel extremely sleepy most of the day. This is because the brain mechanism has a dysfunction and cannot control the sleeping and waking systems. Sleep attacks are common among people who have narcolepsy. Intense dreams or dreaming before fully sleeping is one symptom of narcolepsy.

Restless Legs Syndrome or RLS

Restless legs syndrome is a condition where a patient has irresistible urges to move their limbs while resting. This occurs because of uncomfortable sensations in the legs or hands. Severe cramping is one indication of having restless legs syndrome. Theses sensations of restlessness get worse at night.
